This course offers students an in-depth exploration of the technological avenues available today, and backs this up with interaction design methodologies and a thorough examination of the associated aesthetic developments and potential pitfalls. Students also have individual workstations in a dedicated lab with high-spec computers with a wide range of media authoring software from Adobe, Apple and a number of Open Source tools. Students on this course also have access to our recording studio, a pool of high-quality professional video cameras, and a range of electronic sensors.

One of the major stumbling blocks for creative people wishing to engage in high-level multimedia authoring and interactivity is the hurdle of computer programming. As the course is in the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems, students receive excellent tuition in the fundamentals of programming and special supplementary courses are also offered. In fact, there is often a crossover in interests as students discover new talents in previously unknown areas. Students will also be exposed to a series of interaction design methods and techniques from members of the Interaction Design Centre. Past students have become interaction designers, usability experts, teachers or remained artists but with a digital edge to their work.
