Ying Shi
Description of Composition:
My project is a one-movement piece of electroacoustic music composition focusing on any sound manipulation about pitch. The application of corresponding techniques such as pitch-gliding and the depth of vibrato can be perceived throughout the whole compositional piece. The knowledge of soundscape composition is required and some specific structuring approaches in electroacoustic composition and ideas which can be borrowed from tonal musical composition will also be explored more or less. Furthermore, one factor more important behind all the above is the cultural exploration/explanation of the movements of ancient Chinese Martical Arts (Chinese Gong Fu...). Different real or surreal landscapes or associations can be evoked during the course of this music piece. The composer tried to take the listeners to a journey in the mysterious and fantastic world. Therefore, some oriental elements can be found in this composition. To conclude, this composition can be considered as an electroacoustic explanation of Chinese Martial Arts.
