Project Description:
RhythmRings
This project is situated in the area of technology-enhanced education. The objective of this project is to design and implement a graphical approach to music notation which is aimed at children in primary school. The system adapts ideas from a notation method devised by musician, arranger and producer, Steve Cooney. This graphical approach allows the user to place durational symbols on a circular path to create "RhythmRings". These "RhythmRings" are colour coded according to different percussion sounds and the user may combine several rings to form a percussion accompaniment. The project attempts to produce a software program which offers an alternative to standard music notation.
