Mike J. McCoy
Biography:
Mike is a native of Limerick who graduated from L.I.T. in 2003 with a B.Sc. in Software Development. He is currently employed with Software Company 'Datalex' in Dublin, who provide e-Business solutions to the global travel industry. Mike also works independently in the field of computer graphics and video production, having various sporting organizations and companies as cliental.
An interest in music, digital art, media and programming led Mike to spending a year with the Interaction Design Centre and pursuing the Masters Degree in Interactive Media. An enjoyable time was spent fusing these interests together as well as developing creative and artistic skills that are now of personal and professional benefit to him.
Project Description:
Group Learning, Apart: Collaborative Learning in a Distributed System
The project explores the concept of collaborative and group learning, and applies this concept to a platform independent distributed system powering a multi-user learning environment with the ability to share media content, documents and have multiple controls of single application instances, as well as the capability to allow users interact with other users through the use of a managed audio and video conferencing tool.
The software developed can be described as an integrated real-time multipoint data conferencing environment with sharing of various applications under one instance of a distributed multi-user application. The focus group of the project is 3rd level I.T. students, but is not just restricted to this type of user.
